Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Episode 5 of Lifetime’s “Project Runway All Stars.” This week’s ” Project Runway All Stars ” opens with one of my favorite reality show conceits: The host pretends that she planned the challenge! “Welcome to Central Park,” says Angela Lindvall. “I thought it would be nice for you to get out of the house, get some fresh air and sunshine.” And by that she means, “The producers made us come out to this stupid, hot park in the middle of summer. Is anyone else sweating profusely?” The designers must each approach total strangers, isolate a muse and also, (in what they keep calling an “‘All Stars’ Twist!”) collect clothing off the backs of anyone who will give it up.

In August 30, 1991, “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson had “Late Night” host David Letterman on as his guest. Only months prior, NBC had announced that Jay Leno, not Letterman, would inherit Carson’s position, despite the widespread belief that Letterman, as Carson’s follower on NBC, was the rightful successor to the franchise

At first glance the New York Football Giants share very little with the fictional team in Dillon, Texas. However, after rewatching the first season this past week, it dawned on me that this year’s Giants team is shockingly similar to the Dillon Panthers/Lions. Allow me to recast Friday Night Lights with the players on the Giants: Eli Manning as Matt Saracen The goofy facial expressions, the “aw shucks” expressions, the easy-going personality, Matt Saracen is Eli Manning! Eli Manning is Matt Saracen! Both have led their team to a championship when everyone has counted them out.

Since ” The X Factor ” recently fired three out of its five stars and ” American Idol ” has yet to unearth any stand-out talent in its audition rounds, it seems like the return of NBC’s upstart singing contest, ” The Voice ,” is long overdue.

You’ve seen it on Mad Men : The agency’s creative staff whiles away the noon hour with a liquid lunch of Old Fashioneds, then pops back into the office and whips off a whimsical Lucky Strike ad campaign that gets the masses chomping at the bit for tobacco sticks. But does this sort of debauchery really lead to successful marketing campaigns

Once Upon A Time, in a dark, fearful period of our nation’s history, America had absolutely no amateur talent shows on TV. Shocking, right? But this isn’t a fictional horror story — there was actually a time, in our not too distant past, when there WERE NO TALENT SHOWS ON TV

Fashion icon Donna Karan sat down with Oprah Winfrey to talk about about her philanthropic work and what’s it like to have her own name as a successful international brand.
