“The Hunger Games” and the world of Panem isn’t set to hit the big screen until this Friday, March 23, but the frenzy surrounding the property is building to record-setting pitch. Already, “The Hunger Games” has sold out nearly 2,000 showings and is on pace to compete with “The Twilight Saga” for the biggest advance-ticket sellers of all time.

On a recent Friday evening in New York City, a group of writers and comedians assembled in the SoHo offices of The Onion for “Whiskey Friday,” an informal drinks and conversation gathering created by features editor Joe Garden. Similar to the Algonquin Roundtable, only with less cribbage and more naughtily re-captioned “Family Circus” cartoons , the event attracts a variety of New York comedy stalwarts, as well as the occasional visiting dignitary

With the weight of celebrity and big business behind it, “Fashion Star” is poised for success. The new fashion reality show, which premiered Tuesday night on NBC, hopes to break the mold of fashion TV competitions before it (let’s just say it aloud — “Project Runway”) with a new concept: real buyers not only pick the weekly winner but also purchase the best looks to sell at their retail outlets. Of course there are also celebrities involved, with Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos spinning in their chairs and giving their most clever critiques as “mentors.” But the main idea is to up the level of interactivity and real-time impact by bringing the fashion created on TV straight to Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s and H&M’s websites soon after the closing credits roll

If there’s one thing ” Mad Men ” actors have gotten good at over the years, it’s giving interviews that don’t give away too much about what’s to come on the AMC drama. As fans of the show are well aware, creator Matthew Weiner hates the idea of even the time frame of the new season becoming public knowledge before the show’s return, so there’s little to no upside for actors who drop big clues about what will happen when “Mad Men” finally returns March 25 . But that’s fine; as Part 1 of my interview with “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm showed, the four previous seasons of ” Mad Men ” supply a bountiful array of non-spoilery themes and ideas to talk about

Before I begin, I want to issue a disclaimer: I have no particular investment in the film career of Lindsay Lohan, and I’m not really a big fan of her acting. Although I think the remake of Freaky Friday is underrated , I enjoy Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance in it more than Lohan’s, mostly because she always seems to be slightly uncomfortable onscreen.

Lindsay Lohan’s “Saturday Night Live” performance may not have been Emmy-worthy, but her efforts on the show could be the baby steps she needs to repair her long-tarnished brand. “She showed that she wants to work again,” Cooper Lawrence, author of “Cult of Celebrity” told The Huffington Post. “She was relaxed, confident and professional.

It’s Saturday, and we spent all week sifting through reviews and collecting the snarkiest critiques of blunders and missteps in the latest movies and TV shows for the fifth installment of our “Week In Ouch” series. This week, we’ve rounded up reviews from Vulture, The New York Post , our friends at HuffPost and more to get their (at times) over the top take on new movies and TV shows like “The Lorax”, “Project X” and “GCB.” Let us know which films and shows you think deserved the bash, and which ones you think critics should ease up on.

With basketball aerial feats, dog tricks, singers and swordplay, it almost feels like the circus has rolled into town. That’s not the case at all, though. This is “Canada’s Got Talent,” a new reality series premiering on March 4, 2012

I have a feeling that NBC doesn’t want critics referring to “Lone Star” in their reviews of the promising new drama “Awake” (10 p.m. EST Thursday, NBC), but it’s hard to resist at least a few comparisons to that short-lived 2010 show. If you missed “Lone Star” — and chances are you did, given that Fox only aired it twice — it was an ambitious character drama that embraced ambiguity and featured an unusual protagonist
